Tampa Bay Softball Game Balls & Dinger Tracker - 2/26 & 2/27/24

We're caught up!

Week 1 Awards have been posted and we're back in the saddle to recap Monday and Tuesday's game before our daily recaps truly become daily, once more!

Here's our Game Balls and Dinger Tracker for Week 2's first two days!

Game Balls:

Olivia Ricciardi, Fr. P, Tampa Catholic – The southpaw turned in her best outing so far in a Crusader uniform by twirling a complete game and needing only 78 pitches to shut out Strawberry Crest, 9-0. She struck out seven Chargers.

Allison Cole, Jr. P, Riverview (Sarasota) – Fresh off a Pitcher of the Week selection, Cole again led the Rams to victory. This time, she struck out 13 in a complete game two-hitter against Palmetto. She added a 2-for-3 outing at the plate with a key RBI in the victory.

Skylah Stephens, So. 1B, Wharton – Her two-run double in the fifth was part of an eight-run frame that turned away a Chamberlain rally and turned it into a 13-3 run-rule victory. Stephens doubled twice, scored three times, walked and stole a base.

Abby McLemore, Fr. UTIL, Dunedin – McLemore did just about everything in the Falcons’ win over Tarpon Springs. She clubbed two home runs, scored three times, then tossed three no-hit innings and struck out eight Spongers.

Alivia Miller, Fr., Springstead – In a key early-season Gulf Coast 8 tilt, Miller struck out a baker’s dozen in a 6-1 win over Lecanto. She allowed just one hit and one earned run in a complete game effort. At the plate, she drove in a trio to help the Eagles in more ways than one.

Game Balls:

Makenna Sturgis, Jr. SS, Alonso – In a battle between flag football powerhouses, the dual-sport flag football athlete clubbed a pair of home runs in the Ravens’ 10-4 win over Robinson. Sturgis went a perfect 4-for-4, scored four times and drove in seven.

Grace Chin, Sr. OF, Newsome – The USF signee reached base three times on three hits and scored a couple of runs, including the game-winner as the Wolves completed their rally with a walk-off win over Riverview, 7-6.

Mia Fields, Sr. UTIL, Sunlake – It’s rare to see one seven RBI day across the yard, but Fields joined Sturgis with a similar day in a 16-6 win at Cypress Creek with seven driven in. She connected on her first home run of the season, one of four total hits.

Natalie Cable, Jr. P, Bloomingdale – Eight walks allowed was a career high for the UCLA commit, as Durant waited her out, but perhaps the Cougars waited a bit too long. Cable got the job done with her first no-hitter of the season, striking out 17 to help the Bulls to a 6-0 win.

Jazlyn Duque, So. P, George Jenkins – An eyebrow-raising win for George Jenkins over defending Class 4A State Champion Lake Wales was backed by an impressive performance from the sophomore, who allowed just four Highlander hits in a complete game effort.
