Tampa Bay Softball Weekly Awards & Notable Performances - Week 2, 2024

Clearwater P Morgan Maske.

Combing through box scores this week, we noticed so many good offense performances. It was nearly impossible to pick who got put on an Honor Roll and who would be left out and it almost made us add more to them (if only we had enough space on the Instagram graphic to do that).

We're ready to officially release our second set of weekly awards for the 2024 season!

If you're new to Bay Made Fastpitch (a lot of parents have come up to us to introduce themselves recently!), here's how we do things here.

We split our awards into 4 different sections. Player of the Week, Pitcher of the Week and a Pitching / Offensive Honor Roll. We're also bringing back our Notable Performances section, where we get an opportunity to highlight a large number of players across our coverage area who might have missed out on the bigger awards.

As we like to say with these, 'no polls, no BS.'

Player of the Week:

Morgan Maske, So. UTIL, Clearwater: The Tornadoes swept a four-game week, in part to Maske’s ability to come up in clutch spot after clutch spot. Whether it was at the plate or in the circle, the sophomore was key to her team’s success in Week 2. She went 9-for-17 with two doubles, a triple and a home run and drove in 11 on the strength of three multi-RBI games. Maske added two complete games in the circle to her stat sheet and although her ERA was a bit elevated, the southpaw gave Clearwater a chance to win in each game she threw. She struck out 22 across 14 innings and earned the victory in each game.

Pitcher of the Week:

Jazlyn Duque, So., George Jenkins: Staring down a huge three-game week, Duque didn’t blink in games against defending Class 4A State Champion Lake Wales and traditional Polk County powerhouse Auburndale. The southpaw did not allow an earned run in either game, shutting both opponents out. Duque struck out ten and let her defense work behind her. Even more impressive was her efficiency – she needed less than 100 pitches to finish her stellar performances in the circle to help the Eagles off to their best start in more than a decade.

Offensive Honor Roll:

Juleah Patterson, Jr. C/SS, Clearwater: Set the table time and time again for the Tornadoes, posting a 12-for-14 week at the plate and putting together a lengthy streak of multi-hit games. Patterson scored eight times, drove in three and stole three bases in four games.

Ella Malin, Jr. 2B, Berkeley Prep: At the top of the Berkeley lineup, Malin has been one of the Buccaneers’ most versatile hitters. In Week 2, she went 8-for-11 with a double, home run and her ability to get on base served her well, scoring seven runs across three contests.

Karhys Pierce, Sr. 2B, East Lake: Consistency has been the USF signee’s game over the past four seasons and Pierce was just that in a five-game week for the Eagles. She reached base in every game and finished 7-for-13 with two doubles, a home run, six driven in and six runs scored.

Aliyah Roseman, Fr. INF, Dunedin: One half of the Falcons’ dynamic freshman duo, Roseman was a tough out and dangerous when the put the ball in play. The utility infielder went 8-for-14, with two home runs and eight RBI in four games played to help Dunedin go 2-2 on the week.

Hope Jordan, Jr. C, Manatee: She reached base in all but one plate appearance in three games, finishing 6-for-7 with a double, triple home run, four walks, four RBI and three runs scored to help the Hurricanes pick up a pair of wins.

Pitching Honor Roll:

Avery Powers, Jr., Berkeley Prep: The right-hander makes the Honor Roll for the second consecutive week after a 14-inning streak without surrendering a walk. In that time, Powers struck out 26 and allowed just one earned run in wins over Wesley Chapel, Bishop Moore (Orlando) and The First Academy (Orlando).

Natalie Cable, Jr., Bloomingdale: Kind of an interesting week for the UCLA commit – she issued a career-high eight walks in the Bulls’ 6-0 win at Durant, then pounded the strike zone in the 4-1 win over Gaither. Cable struck out 35 in 14 innings (that’s 2.5 an inning!) and allowed one earned run in two games.

Morgen Talley, Jr., Calvary Christian: The NC State commit was back to her usual dominant self, shutting out Episcopal School of Jacksonville and Oviedo in regulation at the Montverde Academy Invitational. Talley struck out 18 in 14.2 and went 1-1 on the week after an unfortunate ending to the weekend thanks to the state’s new extra inning tiebreaker rules.

Makenna Lee, Jr., Palmetto: Lee’s gotten in rhythm to start the season, even if Palmetto hasn’t started the way it hoped. She struck out 20 in 11 innings of work and allowed two earned runs to Riverview (Sarasota) as the only blemish on her statline. The junior was dangerous at the plate with a 6-for-10 week that included a double, triple and her second home run of the season.

Lilly Patton, So., Steinbrenner: Patton and the Warriors bounced back in Week 2 with a pair of wins over Sickles and Riverview. The sophomore allowed two unearned runs to keep her ERA at zero for the week and struck out 11 in ten innings pitched.
